Position Summary

The General Labor / Material Handler supports daily operations within the powder coating and paint department by safely moving materials, preparing parts for coating, assisting with line flow, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring that production runs smoothly, parts are handled properly, and finished products meet quality standards. In this role, the General Laborer will receive day-to-day directions from the Powder Lead.

 Duties and Responsibilities

·         Perform general labor tasks including lifting, moving, loading, and organizing materials or components used in defense manufacturing.

·         Load, unload, and move parts, racks, and materials throughout the shop.

·         Stage incoming parts for prep, powder coating, painting, or oven curing.

·         Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and hoists (training provided).

·         Ensure parts are handled safely to avoid damage, contamination, or coating defects.

·         Assist with racking and unracking parts according to job travelers and work orders.

·         Help prepare parts for coating (masking, plugging, wiping, hanging, etc.).

·         Assist with production processes such as assembly, preparation, packaging, and inspection of defense-related products or components.

·         Operate basic tools and equipment safely.

·         Follow strict safety, security, and quality-control guidelines in accordance with defense industry standards

        Verify part numbers, job travelers, work orders, and labels match correctly.

        Maintain clean and organized work areas, including material storage zones.

        Report damaged equipment, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately.

        Wear required PPE (gloves, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, etc.) in powder-coating environments.

        This position safeguards Colonial’s information network with user access privileges.
